Dele Alli needs to focus on football more than off-field distractions like Instagram, says former Tottenham star Gus Poyet
Dele Alli has the quality to become one of the best ever Tottenham players, but Gus Poyet is concerned the midfielder is focused more on life outside of football than his form on the pitch. The England international was widely panned for his performance as Spurs suffered a 1-0 defeat to Ajax in their Champions League semi-final first leg at the clubs new stadium. With Harry Kane sidelined with injury and Heung-Min Son suspended, much was expected of Alli against the Dutch giants.Mauricio Pochettino, gives instructions to Dele Alli during Tottenham’s Champions League semi-final against Ajax1

But the midfielder, who has struggled for form and battled with injury throughout the season, could not make an impact as Spurs landed just one shot on target in 90 minutes.Alli was hit with taunts of overrated and fraud on social media, while BT Sport pundit Ruud Gullit also tore into the midfielder, saying in his post-match analysis: “Dele Alli, oh my God, technically so bad.” And former Spurs star Poyet believes the 23-year-old is currently too distracted by off the field matters, including his huge social media presence and his own fashion label, to concentrate on his game.Speaking to Alan Brazil and David Seaman on Wednesdays Sports Breakfast, Poyet said: Everyone was expecting a lot from him, especially without SonI was one of the biggest critics of Dele Alli, because I think hes got so much quality.Obviously in our time, we didnt have all these sponsors, Instagram, the clothing brands and other things, but now there are many things that can take you away from football.

I was one of the ones who said two or three years ago that I would love him just to concentrate on football, because he can become one of the best ever at Tottenham.Another one is Paul Pogba. Physically, technically, hes got everything, but unfortunately for some reason theres always a question mark over him.
